Getting fresh air and much-needed freedom of movement is essential in the winter. So the importance of the footwear your kid wears is huge – they need to fit your kid’s feet, weather and give enough movement freedom. We’ll help you find the right pair in this blog post.
All of the boots below have a roomy toe-box, a flexible sole that doesn’t restrict freedom of movement and all the boots are light – not wearing your kid’s feet down!
When choosing the boots you need to start by measuring your kid’s feet. Kids’ feet grow very fast. You should measure their feet every 4-6 weeks (depending on the age). Make sure you determine whether your kid has narrow, medium or wide feet with the help of this table in the blog post:
We have marked the instep height that fits the boots in every boot overview down below. You cannot measure the instep. You can make sure if the instep is low, medium or high by trying on shoes. For example, if you struggle to find a closure on shoes, that is roomy enough (laces or straps are long enough), then you might be dealing with a very high instep. Or if when you tie the laces and there is visibly a lot of extra room on the top of the shoe, then the feet are shallow (low instep).

Boots for narrow and medium width feet

Boots for medium and wide width feet
Popular winter boots for kids with medium width feet. Baby Bare FEBO Winter boots are a good choice for low instep only!

- Sole: 3mm rubber outsole. Removable insole is covered with cotton fleece, but there is not insulation layer. If needed, replace the original insoles with thermal insoles.

Panda boots are 1 cm higher than Be Lenka Penguin boots. The tongue is sewn up to the upper velcro, which makes it hard for snow and water to get inside.
Snowfox boots are amongst the tallest boots for kids which makes them suitable for snowy conditions.

Beda winter boots are known to be suitable for very wide feet with high instep.

- New “soft paws” sole: 4 layers: outer layer with “soft paws” rubber, microfiber layer, mm flexible-fibre midsole and insole from wool
- Leather sole: 3 layers: suede non-slippery outsole, mm flexible-fibre midsole and insole from warm wool
- Fastening: straps (the button on the straps is just for decoration)
- Colours (with “soft paws”): Metal, Pearl, Aspen, Tibet
- Colours (leather outsole): Tundra, Pearl, Metal, Hibiscus, Kosmos, Dusk
You can cover your kid’s warm socks or shoes with footies. They fit very well with Liliputi booties in wet conditions. Playshoes are suitable for use on all types of soil, including asphalt, but keep in mind that they are not solid rubber wellies. If the asphalt is dry or only wet, it is not necessary to cover the shoes. Intended for use mainly on wet lawns and sandboxes and on wet asphalt with puddles.

Insulated rubber boots
Bundgaard Classic Rubber Boot Winter

- Materials: 40% wool, 60% dacron (the mesh, that the wool is attached on)
- Insole: thermal insoles that are stiff in the beginning but become flexible after bending them with hands. Can be worn without the extra insoles or replace the original removable insoles
- Sole: natural rubber
- Fastening: none, therefore we suggest that rubber boots should be used as seldom as possible
- Colours: Army and Navy
Koel4Kids Rana waterproof boots
Koel4Kids Rana waterproof boots are a great substitute for wellies. Rana boots are lighter and it is somewhat possible to adjust the boots to the kids’ feet. For very cold days combine the boots with wool socks and leggings.
