Smarter, Smaller Shipping for Lower Shipping Costs

Most barefoot shoes are lightweight, but their boxes often contain more air than shoes. Although air doesn’t weigh anything, it still takes up a lot of space in aircraft and road trucks. Since most shipping partners calculate costs based on parcel volume rather than weight, oversized packaging can increase shipping prices unnecessarily.

To reduce shipping costs and environmental impact, we repack orders into smaller boxes whenever possible. This can mean that we might remove the original shoe boxes and pack all pairs together in one box. This helps lower each order’s carbon footprint and makes delivery more efficient.

Donate, Reuse & Recycle Empty Shoe Boxes

We collect empty shoeboxes from our physical store in Tallinn and reuse them to fulfill online orders. After questioning our customers at the store whether they would like to leave the box for us, most customers decide positively as they would throw it away anyway.

By that we minimize the need to buy new boxes for e-commerce shipments. We have bought less than 30 new boxes for shipping since the start of Mugavik Barefoot! (PS. We sell 10,000 pairs annually!)

We donate some of the remaining shoe boxes to our dear e-commerce partners in the area, who use our empty boxes (together with shoe inserts and paper chunks from the boxes) to pack their e-commerce orders.

Plastic-Free, Planet-Friendly Packaging

We use high-quality paper tape to seal the box for shipping instead of using an extra layer of plastic packaging.

90% of our parcels are sent without extra packaging, which means fewer resources are used. We seal the box with tape, which does not affect your right to return it. Shoe boxes generally are tough enough to be delivered with no losses during the shipping process. We have had only a few parcel damage issues during our years of selling barefoot shoes worldwide, with shoes still in their best condition.
